Sometimes it seems to me that far too many people go in at the deep end and struggle to keep up the enthusiasm especially when it all feels as if its starting to look like a childs painting or a childs effort. I was told at the very earliest stages of my learning that I need to stay small. Paint the insignificant. Paint what is not normally looked at. If you can make the tiny things appear correct start to work on the louder more prominent elements of the painting. I understand what is meant by this. As slow as you can paint and as unpressured as you feel you can study the manner of movement from the wrist through the brush to paper is not something that comes with scrutiny, but rather something that comes with fluency and repetition.
