Wind swift heaven high ape cry grief
Islet clear sand white bird fly circle
No edge fall tree rustle rustle down
No end great river surge surge arrive
10,000 li sorrow autumn always be a guest
100 years many sickness alone climb platform
Difficult suffering regret numerous white temples
Frustrated now stop turbid drink cup
Swift wind, heaven high, an ape's cry of grief,
A clear white sand island, birds fly in a circle.
Endlessly, tree leaves rustling rustling down,
Without end, the great river surges, surges on.
Ten thousand miles in sorrowful autumn, always someone's guest,
A hundred years of sicknesses. I climb the terrace alone.
Difficult suffering and numerous regrets. My temples are white.
Frustrated now. I have to stop. Have glass of cloudy (turbid) wine.
Tricky one as he has a lot to say in very few characters.
His vocabulary may be well versed but his knowledge of characters you wonder if he wished he knew more. I don't know.
Difficult to work in Seal Script. Now I know why many do not attempt it. it is diffuclt to obtain that perfect shape freehand. Still, this was my first attempt and I love it dearly. The form and shape of these wonderful characters are completely hypnotising. I hope you enjoyed reading this translation the very few who actually bother to read more than ten word sin a day. You are a rare breed.
